ULTRA Flip Swivel

Flip-assisted right-side-up recovery

One-piece, machined stainless-steel swivel for connecting chain and anchor without additional shackles. The integrated flipping feature supports cleaner seating at the bow roller during retrieval.

Our ULTRA Flip Swivel in Detail

The ULTRA Flip Swivel is designed to connect chain and anchor directly, keeping the connection compact and reducing the need for extra hardware. It is manufactured in Turkey from solid 316Ti stainless steel and produced as a one-piece machined component rather than a casting.
A spherical joint provides controlled articulation, specified with 360° swivel capability and up to 30° rotation. This movement supports alignment as the anchor is deployed and recovered.
A key design element is the flipping nub and rear bridge, intended to help the anchor recover right-side up into the bow roller. Hexagonal head locking bolts are specified to secure the swivel pins without additional grub screws, and the breaking strength is marked on the rear of the one-piece body. The breaking strength is stated as typically higher than the chain it is connected to.

Designed for Safety

Usage Instructions

Because the swivel is safety-critical, routine inspections are recommended. At least once per year, perform a visual check for unexpected issues. If the spherical joint becomes mineral-coated, applying a water-resistant lithium-based grease is described as helpful for smooth operation.

The pin set screws are designed not to loosen on their own, but this should be verified during inspection. A small indentation on the neck can occur when the anchor self-corrects after being retrieved in the wrong orientation – this is described as an aesthetic effect. If wear becomes excessive and reduces the diameter at the indented area below the diameter where the neck meets the sphere, the swivel’s safety is compromised and it must be replaced.

Possible causes of excessive stress (as listed):

  • Using the swivel with a heavier anchor than specified in the selection table (undersized swivel).
  • Connecting a high-strength chain to an undersized swivel.
  • Select a swivel with breaking strength greater than the chain.
  • Bow roller geometry that is too narrow to allow sideways movement during self-correction.
  • A groove on the bow roller that hinders rotation of the anchor.
  • Retrieval that does not allow time for self-correction.
  • Pausing briefly when the swivel reaches the roller is described as reducing stress

The source text states that ignoring these recommendations may create risks to life and property and can void warranty coverage for the swivel.

Anchor Locking Hook

When the anchor is retrieved and seated on the bow roller, an anchor locking hook should be used to prevent unintentional deployment. The hook is attached at the gap at the end of the anchor arm where it connects to the swivel body, then tightened and secured to the nearest cleat.

Oval hole anchor connection

Some older anchor designs use an oval connection hole at the end of the shank, originally intended for U or D shacxkles. The ULTRA Flip Swivel provides a more advanced connection concept, but when it is connected to a non ULTRA anchor with an oval hole, the connection can, in rare cases, shift and lock in an undesirable position during movement.

If you want to eliminate this possibility completely, the guidance recommends a small modification that reduces the unnecessary backward clearance of the oval hole.

Selecting the right ULTRA Flip Swivel model

Use the ULTRA Flip Swivel selection resources to choose a model based on your vessel type and key parameters (e.g., vessel weight/displacement and length). The selection table and main dimensions are also provided in the download section below.
