Dear Sirs,
I just wanted to let you know your “Ultra Flip Swivel” really works great. I have tried it many times now and feel its safe to let my wife stow the anchor. It simplicity, in flipping the anchor over into the correct stowage position prior to being is pulled over the bow roller works every time. Again thanks for a great product. I am also looking forward to picking up one of your Ultra Anchors at the Seattle Boat show this mouth. I was very impressed with the demostration.

Hello Mr. Erkutay,
We were using an 80 kg Pool N-type anchor on our 2012 model Azimut 82 boat. This season, we started using your 80 kg ULTRA Side Pocket Anchor. Previously, our 25-meter boat with a higher freeboard would drag our anchor in the side winds, causing us to lose sleep during the season. Thanks to your newly launched ULTRA Side Pocket Anchor Unbalanced, designed for the bow pocket of our yacht, we can now sleep soundly. I want to thank you and your company for this product.
Sincerely
M/Y Min Captain Emre Akay
Dear Erkutay,
After a night spent on watch with 50 kts. of true wind in Sicily I simply wish to send you and your family my utmost appreciation for the fantastic 80 Kg. Ultra Anchor I bought from you 3 years ago coupled to its swivel. Feeling safe and hooked to the bottom in those winds is something we cannot put into words. Thank you for having manufactured such a marvellous piece of equipment. One of the most precious on our Jongert 20DS Margherita. I encourage you to publish this letter as a reference and at your best convenience.
Best Regards.

Here is a 5 star review.
Nicole hurricane hit us directly at Wabasso Bridge Florida. Eye went right over. 51kt sustained and higher gusts. 27kg ultra anchor with 110ft all chain and 2 snubbers in 8 ft of water. We held like glue! 33k lbs monohull sailboat 50’. We have used the anchor for 4 seasons and had many times this anchor has proven itself. And it looks great!
Thanks

We installed the 16/35 on our 2014 Sessa Marine Key Largo 34 purchased at the Ft Lauderdale Boat Show.
Not only beautiful mounted on our bow but works great in the Florida Keys bottom.
Great functional design, very happy.

Good day,
I previously ordered an Ultra Anchor, UA60-132, and swivel from you (invoice #D5..). I am extremely happy with the product, and we have mentioned that numerous times on our social media. ……………………
Many thanks,

Mr. Erkutay,
I am so glad that I bought the ULTRA Anchor. That is an excellent anchor; I have never dragged or had trouble getting it to hold. I recommended that some friends purchase occasionally, and they all are as happy as me…. ………I wish you success.

Just wanted to say’s Thanks for all our help at the Annapolis Boat show on our new ULTRA Anchor. We have an Australian built boat that had a F…… anchor on it. With a few nights I’d dragging we knew we needed a change. We were at Fort Pierce FL when we took delivery of our new ULTRA Anchor. Changed it out and we have never dragged since. You saying is correct. Set it and forget it!!
Thanks again!

Dear Peter,
Thank you for your mail and for the proposal of the Ultra Anchor Ring. Let me first tell you about my experiences with the Ultra Anchor - together with the Flip Swivel. I used it quite often on my way down to Portugal, and each time it immediately grap into the ground with perfect holding. Drop and forget. Never any worries, never bad holding. The Ultra Anchor is really a perfect (and beautiful) anchor! The Flip Swivel works perfect as well, which allows get the anchor up from the cockpit (using the electric switches I have there) without and worries that it comes over the bow roller in a wrong position. This is a safety issue, and especially helps if you are sailing single handed. Another feature of the anchor is that the concentration of the weight in the tip helps the anchor to come out of the bow roller without any help. All my previous anchors had to be pushed over the bow roller before I could let them go down. The Ultra Anchor can be manoeuvred completely from the cockpit without going to the bow - another safety feature.
Thank you again, with kind regards, Andreas
This new anchor, USAS35/77-B, 35kg/77lbs ULTRA Side Pocket Anchor, literally saved our investment from much a lack of use. We never tested the anchor at our survey and assumed it would be OK (Greenline 48).
We are huge cruisers and are embarking on the Great American Loop next year from April. We were desperate for a solution. Talking to you at the boat show was the best thing I ever did for this boat.
We have been cruising and anchoring locally on weekends when not at work, for years. Since we purchased our Greenline 48 in January we were depressed about the bad anchor and felt that the only way we could get away with our boat was by rafting up to a friend with a better anchor, drop a heavy additional anchor along with our primary, or by booking a marina. The ironic part is that our vessel has 40Kwh of battery power so we don’t need to be at a marina to enjoy AC, normal appliances and much more on the hook without even using a generator. All that was wasted by not having a satisfactory anchor. We live in a boaters paradise and this anchor is our savior. 😊
The other day while cursing I noticed several bigger yachts with unsatisfactory stockless anchor designs on their vessels. I know that you guys can sell the heck out of this anchor.
Please don’t hesitate to sell it to Greenline members that write you on the side mentioning that they saw my posts. They will all love it. If there is anything I can do to help you guys out, just let me know.
Cheers,
Pierre
Hello Ultra Anchor Team,
I am writing this email to express my abundant satisfaction with your product!
I’ve spent a great deal of time researching anchors (many, many, many competitors and different opinions on anchors)
Doing my best to justify the cost vs performance vs size vs finish vs company vs …etc.
I knew the moment your anchor arrived in its custom-made box and wrapped like a piece of fine dishware, I had made the correct choice on company care/dedication.
I Knew once I unwrapped this absolutely GORGEOUS piece of stainless-steel artwork, that is the Ultra UA16/35, I made the correct choice on quality.
I knew once I installed the Ultra anchor on my boat and see how amazing it looks and fits (almost as if the boat was made for the anchor), that I had made the correct choice in style/finish.
I knew the moment I deployed my new anchor and felt it set instantly without even a hint of drag, that I made the correct choice on design.
All of the above along with your willingness to help me along the way (sending templates and specs), makes me very happy that I chose the Ultra anchor.
I will gladly share my experience with the boating community and feel free to use me as a referral.
Thank again and have a blessed day.

I can offer some first hand experience with bent shanks vs. the Ultra swivel: This summer in Greece I had a catastrophic failure and loss of a 33kg ss R…. V…. anchor, its shank simply broke in two pieces by side loads from being caught in rocks. And guess what, it was attached to an Ultra swivel that survived without any signs of failure or bending! As can be seen on my pictures below, a slight dent could be seen in the bolt that went through the shank. This I have now replaced just to be sure.
I think this is great testament to the quality of the Ultra swivel and eventually led me to put trust in and to purchase an Ultra anchor as a replacement for the broken V…..
Anyway, it is easy to agree to many of the concerns of swivels in general that many commenters in here put forth, but I think it is appropriate to ask if any of this is relevant as long as the pieces are properly sized. The same probably goes for the discussion about shackle arrangements. But the unique self-righting feature of the Ultra swivel in my opinion represents a huge improvement over a pure shackle solution. For my yacht ( sy-cheetah.no ) it was also a bare necessity to use something slim as my bow roller channel is too narrow to accept a properly sized bow shackle, and a D-shackle alone just too easily jams. A rather un-mentioned but nice feature of the Ultra swivel is its very slim pointy design, offering the least possible resistance for the shank to dig itself deep into the sand while the anchor is being set. Compare this with the Mantus swivel which has a very large diameter, actually comparable to an "anchor rescue" device I tried for a while https://www.anchorrescue.com/how-it-works but with very deteriorating effect on anchor setting performance, it often prevented the shaft and thus entire anchor to dig in properly.
As to the hole in the Ultra shank being round rather than oblong, this is exactly how it should be since the anchor and swivel have been designed to work together! The R…. V…. I lost had an oblong hole which I had to fill with epoxy putty to make it round for the swivel to work properly! It should also be pointed out that the two pieces of the fork over the shank are connected with a solid arch, adding to its strength and reducing the chances that the fork is opened by side loads. Note also that the pin that goes through the chain is also ovale, this is not unique to the Mantus swivel.
Bottom line, I think the Ultra anchor is far from “motor boat jewellery”! Yes, it’s pretty and expensive, but together with the swivel it represents a great piece of engineering, and it is now adopted by premium sailing yacht brands such as Swan, Oyster and Hallberg-Rassy (and indeed on premium motor boats such as Fleming).
But too bad this post has not attracted more real user reviews on the holding capabilities of the anchor itself. I personally have only been able to use the Ultra anchor for four weeks in the Cyclades, with good results including riding out a Force 7-8 meltemi for five days in a row, but it would be interesting to hear more long-term users experience.

Hello Gene,
As promised at last week's boat show I have the following re the Ultra anchor: In 2004 I experienced a middle of the night anchor failure in the Sea of Cortez resulting in a grounding of my 54 foot Offshore vessel. I subsequently purchased a larger 72' Offshore in 2008. Keeping in mind my previous troubles I went looking for a better anchor for windy night conditions. I met Randy at a boat show in San Diego and found out about your anchor system. I bought a 132 pound Ultra anchor with swivel and harness snubber set up. I have been using the system for four years and can tell you that the anchor sets like a rock. Very solid and resets with changing tides and currents very quickly. I have scuba dived to check many times and without fail it is buried to the shank! A bit expensive but worth every nickel and looks great!
Best Regards,
Tom Sparrow
Dear Erkutay,
We want to inform you how happy we are with the Ultra anchor. We have been anchored out now for 6 weeks along the Turkish coast in some of the same mud bottom that we dragged in with our old Rocna. In Knidos for example is hard clay/ mud, and we popped out the Rocna as it was fouled with hard mud and wouldn't reset. The Ultra dug right in penetrating deeper and giving us a good nights sleep in 20+ kts of wind. We also have found that it doesn't drag with a 180 deg wind shift in 30kts. Thank you again for helping making our cruising life safer, and we'll look forward to the windy Cyclades this summer now!
Sincerely,
Rick & Barbara Heinen
Dear Randy,
Just to let you know how much my wife and I appreciate our Ultra anchor that we purchased from you at Annapolis last fall. We installed it the day we bought it. We went down the Intracoastal to Florida, then to the Bahamas where we are still navigating. No matter where we anchor, we know we can sleep tight. In the Exumas, where the water is so clear, we love to show off by letting our guests actually see the anchor sink into the sand right in front of their eyes. We have bought many pieces of equipment for our boat since. But we still think your Ultra anchor was our best investment.
Regards,
François Legare
Hello Mr. Erkay,
……..I had a chance to use the anchor in the Greek islands under powerful winds, but the ULTRA performed really well. As told, it buried itself deeper by the increased load and kept on holding us perfectly. It also carried another 45-foot boat under 30 knot winds.
Thanks

Randy,
We had the opportunity to test the new anchor yesterday. Fabulous! As promised, it set instantly and on held the first try. I watched the GPS like a hawk to see if we were moving. We weren't, and were sitting in about 10 knots of wind. It was also remarkably easy to "break" and because of its polished surface, it easily shed the nasty Chesapeake Bay mud that would cling like glue to the galvanized predecessor. This is a bit of a game-changer for us, in that we've never been fully able to trust our previous anchors - therefore not sleep very well.
Thanks again,

16 August 2019 evening..
place: Gokova Akbuk Bay
450 lagoon and we anchored
The breeze started at around 23.00, left its place to a storm with “45-65” knots for 6 hours, and the whole time, ULTRA Anchor did a fantastic job, and we didn’t move an inch.
We thank you, everyone, for making such an anchor, giving us confidence even during this nightmare…

Erkutay,
We recently met you at the Miami Boat Show and I we talked about an experience we had with our Ultra Anchor.
On November 12, 2018, we were anchored in a small anchorage in Moorhead City NC. We have an *Ultra 21 anchor with all chain anchor rode. We had laid out a scope of 5 to 1 based on the water current in this anchorage. At 0400 that morning, we had been anchored for about 12 hours when we were wakened by an alarm sounding on our cell phones for a tornado warning in our area.
Shortly there after the storm made landfall a very short distance from our anchorage. We were in total darkness and not able to see any sign of the twister approaching. We were up, dressed in our personal flotation devices and fowl weather gear with the boat’s engine running. We were preparing for the worst. The winds had been blowing from the south between 15 to 20 mph since we anchored. Our Ultra Anchor was dug in and doing what is supposed to do. Holding us in position agains the wind and current.
At 0430, the wind dropped to zero, turned 90 degrees and immediately shot up to over 40 mph. The boat spun the boat 180 degrees from our original position and stayed at this position for 10-15 minutes. When the sustained wind gust passed, the boat swung back to our anchored position. The Ultra totally totally, totally did its job. We returned to the exact location where we dropped the anchor originally.
I have attached a couple of pictures from our chart plotter of our anchored position, the location of the 180 degree location and the storm on the radar during the storm.
We were always comfortable that our Ultra anchor would hold us in our anchored position during normal conditions. Now, we know what it will do to keep us safely anchored under extreme conditions. We just can’t say enough good thing about your anchors.
Thank you

Dear Giovanni,
I m sorry for the delay ... been busy and when have a moment to rest is always something to fix..😊 I m Goncalo Lemos, Captain for 15years now, with experience on 25 -30 meter yachts, and a long experience on anchor as well. When first saw Ultramarine anchor on a boat show in Palma, I immediately notice the high quality and finishing as well the details of the anchor! Made a impression ! After looking and check any detail I felt that had to purchase it!!!!.... The confirmation of it, was when the comercial on the stand asked me to try the different scale anchors on a sand box. That was a really nice because could see the real performance on the sand, in model scale. After a couple years, due to the owner un decided if sale or not the yacht, I purchased the Ultramarine anchor 80kg with the swivel. I normally spend 3 to 4 months per year at anchor, on a 88 motor yacht. Before had a Bruce anchor that made me drop around 70 m of chain to be more relax on a 8/10m depth.... and when wind changed, had to be sure the drift stoped as the bruce jumps out of the sand when pulled in opposite direction...so only sleep when had a line on the stern from the rocks, to stop the swing. Basically couldn't relax nor sleep well with the previews anchor. This year, received the 80kg ultramarine anchor, made small modification on the bow for holding it perfectly, and have to say that looks amazing the bow with the bright of the stainless steel reflection. Made some tests, but is never enough to be aware of the full capacity of the anchor except in a real situation, like with strong wind and natural forces. Is now 3 months at anchor, and have already some episodes that occurred in meanwhile. Is just incredible good anchor and most of all safe! Weather in Ibiza, current position of the yacht, is more and more unpredictable, with very inaccurate forecasts. First situation that was some how stressed, was when had no wind when drop anchor and forecast, was 5 to 10kts max, was with 5m depth and 15m chain, wind starts to gusting around 25-30 kts!!!! The way the bow stoped after the swing and chain stretched, It looked like a tender!!! Like had a chain connected to a concrete block!! I couldn’t believe that the anchor didn t moved or dragged with such a pull.... boat has nearly 80 tones... Was worried as before in such conditions already had to move and drifted with the bruce anchor. So stayed and observed the behaviour of the all set and even took some chain up to see when was the time it started to drag and until the boat wasn't t on top of it it didn't´t came out!!!! Completely under the sand ! Even the arm. Also one day, had my anchor under other boat when started to lift up. I though could go near and with less chain on the water and close to the anchor, with engines reversing could pull it out and drag the anchor from under the other yacht. Got again surprised!!! Because when revers engine the bow turns as it was on my port side, diagonal , that almost crashed !!!!😂 had 8 m depth and 10 meter chain... I m only able to lift anchor if I m on top of it and the chain is vertical!!!! Amazing Also have to mention the comfort and practical is the swivel!!! Every time, i mean every single time lift anchor, had to make a stupid position and risk to fall to the water to make the anchor enter in the right position! So not upside ...hated so much that... So with this swivel I don t even have to look if is straight or upside-down or even be at the bow..just lift it and is always in the correct position. Definitely recommend to anyone ! Today can sleep relaxed without worry if it drifts or wind changes or even if gusts hard!!! Really! On my anchor app that often use, and on the gps I register the track it makes so can observe how much drift have on wind change, and nothing but nothing concerning or even to make any adjust on the perimeter of safety... not 10 not 8 m , is just the size of the anchor!! Like the scale model I ve tried on the boat show!! Couldn't t believe that was so accurate a model. Had also a night, that a catamaran of 50ft drifted with no one on board, while was 20kts wind with gusts of 25-28kts, I was on alert due to be with a line to a rock on the stern, so no swing. When my worries started to alarming, was when the cat chain and anchor got stuck on my Anchor and chain!!! Near the anchor !! So I was facing a risk that the cat could lift or move my anchor!!! Something I didn't t expected !! So couldn't´t lift my anchor because would risk to have the other anchor stuck on mine and so no manoeuvre capability had with a catamaran of 50 ft stuck on my anchor.... So managed with my tender to and a line to take the chain of the cat and secure it on my bow as the wind was blowing from the starboard. It was a situation of stress but, luckily have an amazing anchor that could hold a 88ft yacht and the 50 catamaran with 25kts !!!!and the cat had the anchor on the arm of the ultramarine anchor!! Didn't t move a inch!!!!!! This, and some smaller experiences had already with it, can be formed a proper review and opinion of how reliable is the amazing Anchor. There is one negative thing! Is didn't purchase this anchor earlier!!!:) To any yacht owner, my experience so far with this anchor, is a MUST have on board! Is priceless the safety and tranquility of not be worried for wind direction or change, or the excess of chain on the water to be more secure.Something that today allows me to be in spots with less swing diameter as can have less chain in the water. My congratulations to the Ultramarine work of building a such amazing anchor with superior finishing quality! Theres is no words for a product that has life time warranty! Is because is good!!!
Best Regards,
Capt. Gonçalo Lemos
Hi Scott,
We spoke to you at FLIBS this past Sunday about how superbly our Ultra anchor has performed. Here is our testimony: After several years of stopping by the Ultra booth at the Ft Lauderdale Boatshow, in 2012 we decided to purchase an Ultra for our Bristol 45.5. We replaced a CQR which had served us quite well over many years, but certainly had it's limitations in many bottoms, .i.e .hard bottoms, grass, kelp, and very soupy mud. We watched a video of the Ultra and could see this anchor perform in various bottoms, particularly how it performed in grass by digging itself below the grass into a solid bottom. We decided to purchase the 27kg/60 lb Ultra. Our boat is relatively heavy, fully loaded around 45,000 lbs, with high topside weight and sail area due to our Hood stoway mast. That winter (2013) we headed on our annual cruise to the Bahamas. The first test was when we arrived at Morgan's Bluff, Andros where the bottom is very hard and difficult to find good holding. We simply put the boat where we wanted, without regard for the appearance of the bottom in about 7' at LW, the Ultra and it immediately grabbed and held firm while backing down with nearly full throttle. The next test came several days later when we anchored in Royal Island Harbor near the north end of Eleuthera. The bottom here is largely grass with a few sand patches. With the CQR we would cruise around looking for the clearest patch before anchoring. With the Ultra we decided to ignore what we saw on the bottom and again just put the boat where we wanted to anchor. We dropped the Ultra and once again it immediately dug in without hesitation and never budged while backing down at full throttle. Since that time we have anchored in Royal Harbor at least 7 or 8 times and the Ultra has performed perfectly in the notorious grassy bottom. I have brought up huge clumps of grass on the anchor with roots at the bottom of the grass clumps showing that the Ultra performed exactly as advertised. That winter we anchored 30-40 times and the Ultra never failed to set immediately. We rode out a number of strong cold fronts with winds gusting well above 30-35kts and we never budged. During frontal passages, with rapid wind shifts, this anchor never failed to reset as the boat swung sometime 90 degrees to the wind, often in the dark of night. Later that season we sailed to Maine from Florida and no matter where we anchored the Ultra continued to set immediately. The final and what we call the "ultimate" test for the Ultra occurred when we arrived in Gloucester, Ma. on our way south. The designated anchorage area in Gloucester is about 22-25' deep with some of the soupiest mud we have ever encountered. Over the years we had tried countless times to get a really good set with our CQR but it would always slip and slide through the mud. We'd tried various techniques such as putting down the CQR and then waiting 10-15 min for it to sink down through this ooze, then try to set it. No luck. So the day we arrived with our Ultra we did what we had always done with this anchor: motor into place and drop the anchor and pay out chain. This day we had about 15 kts of wind blowing into the anchorage so as we let out chain the bow fell off to starboard until we were about 45 degrees off the wind. The next thing that happened was the Ultra bit and we literally almost lost our balance as the bow rounded back into the wind! Since that initial season of 2013 we have anchored several hundred times and the Ultra has never failed to set immediately on the first try. We have slept much more soundly since then and have the peace of mind that we have the best anchor ever designed. We have compared notes with friends who have the Rocna anchor, but would not trade our Ultra for all the Rocnas under the sun! This is the best piece of equipment we have purchased on any boat for any purpose. The Ultra is our life insurance and we trust it with our lives! Cheers, and thanks again for the caps which we proudly wear!

Erkutay & team,
Just wanted to drop you guys a note regarding our purchase of your anchor and swivel… After multiple dragging episodes with our plow anchor in swift current but calm conditions, we returned to the same location a couple of weeks with our new ULTRA Anchor. Were anchored for several days in the same location including weathering a front with 20-30 mph winds. The anchor stuck immediately upon hitting the bottom and never moved for our entire stay. My wife and I could not be happier with it’s performance and the piece of mind we have now! Not only is it performing better than our prior anchor, but it looks beautiful on the boat. Thanks again folks!
Jon & Cheri Jones
Hello Erkutay,
……… The sea trial was a success. But you will now feel very proud of your anchor. An unexpected gale moved over our anchored location and winds were steady for 15 minutes at 53 kts, gusts to 60 kts. The anchor (in mud) held beautifully. What a test. We felt very secure. ………… Warm regards,
Dan Libera
I keep on relaying my experience with Gunfleet 58/04 (anchored with an ULTRA Anchor) where in 45-50 knots of wind another 40ft boat dragged its anchor which rode up our chain and became jammed in our stem-head. For the next 2 hours there were TWO boat anchored in big and nasty swinging winds, on just ONE Ultra Anchor - if ever I had any doubts that the Ultra was just a beautiful looking peace of deck jewelry (because it IS beautiful !), that night proved me completely wrong. (ps if you want to use that quote, be my guest)

We just finished serving as a stake boat in ny harbor during the recent America's cup Lois Vuitton series. This required repeatedly anchoring in approximately 50 feet of water in a current up to 4 knots with variable winds from 0 to 32 knots over three days. The coast guard cutter anchored near us was dragging in the mud bottom. The Ultra anchor on all chain held my Hylas 56 like it was on a mooring.
Thanks for a great product.

Dear Jan,
Since June 2014, we use every day our ultra anchor on our Catana 472, at first in Mediterranean, and after in Canara Islands where the Anchor has hold us at anchoring with wind, tide and swell... we were alone at anchoring during 5 days and we had totaly confidence in the ultra anchor. Ater this, we are in Caribbean since more than one year and always anchoring. We have seen many boots dragging in our anchorages but our anchor hold always very good. After good winds at anchoring, our ultra is under the sand and we see only the chain.... We are very happy for choosing this anchor and the 45kg are very good for this boat. …..
Thank you for your answer.

Randy,
We received this unsolicited testimonial from one of our clients we sold an Ultra Anchor to. He said we could use it where ever we wanted.

Dear Yacht Masters,
Last August at Mink Island in Desolation Sound we had a HUGE wind blow through. Naturally, it was 2:00 in the morning. The harbor was packed with 20+ boats. It quickly became a rodeo with 12-15 boats losing their anchor hold. Everyone was awake, lots of hollering, crews trying to keep boats from colliding. That Ultra Anchor you installed never budged! Earlier in the summer, I had a similar experience at Wallace Island in the Gulf Islands which was about 90% of Mink. I was solo so it added a heightened sense of alertness. The Ultra Anchor held solidly. I really put that Ultra Anchor to the test last summer. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with my Ultra Anchor. You would be well served to keep recommending that product. She’s a beauty!

Dear Erkutay,
………. I've been using your products for more than 6 years with my yacht, particularly your Ultra anchor, and i can say that they are very very good, and that Ultra anchor is the best anchor i've ever had! Ultra anchor assured me always a complete peace of mind in all situations! During last summer i navigated in Aegean Sea for 4 months, anchoring very often with more than 30 knots Meltemi, and my Ultra anchor never moved from the point of the seabed i had dropped it! I authorize you to report my words, if you want! ……….
Kind Regards
Vincenzo
After dragging anchor in the sand with a hugh danforth anchor behind Islamorada, Fl on our 48’ Kadey Krogen in 25 kt winds, I was determined to find an purchase the ideal anchor at the 2015 Miami Boat Show. We got the large Ultra and mounted it in Key West. My test was in Morehead City, NC this fall in 35 kt winds with a sandy bottom and set the anchor alarm. We were in a narrow anchorage but did not move at all that night. I look forward to continuing test this winter on our trip back to Florida. By the way, the Ultra looks great too.

Nice and give the market what it wants, but I adore my Shinny Ultra Anchor, and receive many compliments about it. The mud of the Saint Johns river slides right off when recovering it unlike my old galvanized plow, and the Ultra Anchor sets the first time every time, and has held fast in some serious thunderstorms in both mud and sand. I do need a replacement for the shock absorber on the bridle, one side failed, in service but other than that I am a fan, advocate and believer. Your swivel is the ultimate accessory and works as advertised, the anchor always orients itself and comes home with no issues!
Sincerely

Hi Randy,
It was a pleasure meeting you at the Annapolis sail boat show last week.
We have a 2006 meridian 408 and had purchased your Ultra Anchor from you during the 2014 Annapolis boat show. I am pleased to report after one years use that this was one of the best additions to our boat so far. We have anchored out under not-so-good conditions and this anchor was like a magnet. During the Blue Angels air show we anchored in normally rough water but this day had winds gusting to 20 knots. Needless to say, under very crowded boating conditions, we dropped anchor and never budged the entire day. Your product is by far worth every penny, not only for typical use (anchoring) but for peace of mind as well. We are looking forward to seeing your booth at the Ft Lauderdale power boat show this year as 6 of us make this trip together every year. I am looking forward to introducing my friends to you. Thank you for your generous offer to "take care of us"...if by chance exhibitor tickets (6) become available, we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again Randy.
See you in Ft Lauderdale!

Hi Randy,
I wanted to endorse your anchor. I anchored in 12 feet of water at Rippers in Catalina a couple of weekends ago. I was able to see your anchor work first hand. I also saw my neighbors anchors with the flukes and they were all marginally secured to the bottom. I wanted to let you know how much nicer it is to anchor with your anchor knowing you’re secure and there’s little chance of having an issue especially with 3 to 1 out and little wind or current. My boat is fifty years old this summer. Completely restored. Insurance won’t cover the replacement value not even close because of age making anchoring even more scary. Not an issue with the Ultra anchor. Thanks, man, good job!

Randy,
We love our shiny Ultra-60 lbs! In fact we just matched it with a SS chain and new gypsy. Instead of the castles created by the old galvanized chain, the new "jewelry" just melts into the chain locker, as my husband observed, "like when Scrooge McDuck was pouring coins into his vault". A little pricy, double what a new galv chain would be and a lot less than back surgery. And no more galvanic action on the first link. Thanks for creating the "Ultra" in anchors. Gives us a good night's sleep on any bottom the NW(Puget Sound-Glacier Bay) offers up, which is just about everything.

Hi,
I have a 1975 Pearson 35 (13,000 lbs empty). I’ve had the boat for many years and she’s in fantastic condition. We live and sail on Lake Champlain in Vermont. The lake is about 120 miles long which generates 4 - 6’ swells and 20kts + winds pretty often. We’ve always had problems with our 35lbs CQR anchor holding. Most nights are sleepless if the wind is above 15kts. Really I don’t sleep well if the wind is above 7 - 8kts because no matter how careful we are when setting the hook it seldom holds. About 2 years ago I decided to purchase your Ultra anchor (21KG model) in hopes it would improve the holding. I figured if nothing less the new anchor would weigh 15lbs more and maybe, just maybe that would help. Well guess what? Your anchor holds every single time. It’s amazing - no matter how strong the wind or how weedy the lake bottom the anchor hooks up and won’t let go. We’ve set it about 50 times and we’ve never had to make a second try. As soon as we reverse the boat the rode gets taunt in about 10 feet of backwards movement. We bring the RPMs up to 2000 and hold it there for 2 minutes - no slipping, no dragging, no jumping. It’s like being on a mooring. My only complaint (which is not a real complaint) is that sometimes raising the anchor is difficult because of it’s grip on the lake’s bottom. Also, I should have trusted your sizing chart and purchased the 16KG model which would have saved me some money and made it easier to raise, but I just never thought your design would perform that much better than my CQR. Boy was I wrong. I want you to know that I’ve never written a testimonial before but you’re anchor has compelled me to take the time to write this letter. Well done to your engineers and designers, it looks beautiful and works better than it looks. Although it’s a bit pricy, it’s worth every single penny!!!!
Ahoy.

In 5,000 nM of cruising aboard our 40 foot sailboat from Houston to Grenada over the last 1 1/2 years, I’ve used my 60lb Ultra in all kinds of anchoring situations and bottom surfaces as well as 360 degree swings. I’ve been through many 40-50kts squalls at anchor. My Ultra has never ever dragged. I sleep very well knowing the Ultra has proven itself. Now I just have to worry about the other guys who don’t have Ultra’s dragging down on me.

Dear Mr. Erkutay YUCEL,
We managed to stay stable by the ULTRA Anchor we bought, as recommended by a friend, at Gocek Hamam Bay under powerful winds that lasted for about 90 minutes. We didn’t even move by 1cm. This was our first extreme wind experiment, and we succeeded; the boats around us went to open sea, and we didn’t require. Thank you. You deserve each penny we paid you. We thank everyone who played a role in the design process of this anchor.

Dear Gene,
Just want to let you know that the ULTRA Anchor (UA35-70) with the ULTRA Flip swivel (UFS10) and the Articulated ULTRA Bow Roller has performed exceptionally well during our cruise down from Maine to the Bahamas and back to our home port in Virginia this last winter season.
We had the system installed by Maine Cat Inc., during the construction of our Maine Cat P47. We had seen the demos of the system at the Annapolis Boat Show and based upon these show and tell demonstrations, we decided to have this system installed, even though it was very expensive in comparison to competitive anchor systems. We prefer to anchor out rather than to stay in a marina, so we used the anchor set up quite a bit during this cruise. I have had no sleepless nights since using this ground tackle. We sat out a nearly week long blow in the Bahamas where it was consistently 20-25 knots with gusts up to 36 knots out of the W and NW. There is not a lot of shelter when the wind blows from this direction, so we had a good 2 ft + wind chop to contend with as well. The boat did not move except to follow the wind direction. Eventually we did the complete clock swing as another cold front approached. The only concern I had was whether the chain had wrapped around the top of the anchor, so before the next blow and wind shift, I checked and the chain was resting on the retrieval loop at the top of the anchor. It probably would have slipped off as the wind picked up and the anchor rode tightened, but I dove on it and pulled it off just in case. Even with a 360 wind shift, the anchor stayed well dug in and, so far, there was no bending of the shaft as the tension on the anchor changed direction. When anchored in muddy bottom conditions, the chain comes up covered in mud which takes a while to hose off, however, the smoothness of the stainless steel anchor results in it coming up very clean. Certainly a different story to our previous galvanized anchor. In anchoring, we drop and lay out the chain as the wind or current drifts the boat back. After sufficient is laid out dependent on the water depth and tide prediction, we let it settle and then I apply increasing rpm to the engines as I back down. I feel the anchor grab and swing the boat accordingly. I then dive to check and usually the anchor is only showing part of the shank and possibly a little of the head of the anchor. It is not moving. ………………. The anchor has set so well for us this cruise that I tell people that the ULTRA anchor is so good that it sets before it hits the water!! ……………….. On retrieving the anchor, the ULTRA flip swivel certainly does flip the anchor into the correct position, so I have not had to lean over the boat to align the anchor to bring it up. This was a problem on our previous system. The anchor fits snugly in the articulated bow roller and does not move at all in heavy seas. ………………… Thanks to Quickline for a great product.

We love our Ultra anchor. We have had it for 7 years and have anchored everywhere from Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, Sitka Alaska and Mexico. It has NEVER failed, even in 50 knot winds.

Your anchor is the best!!
I bought a 35 lbs, for my 38 ft sail boat and NEVER dragged in three years of cruising. Now I put it on a 41 ft power boat and still have not dragged ! Knowing now how well it works I would pay twice the price.
Ps it stays clean and looks great.
Tim
I can tell you with all my heart that ULTRA Anchor is the only anchor that lets me sleep comfortably. This is the three anchor I bought from you, and I placed the order even before I took delivery of my new boat, like the previous ones. I don’t go out of a marina without an ULTRA Anchor. I congratulate you once again on this very advanced engineering product.
Best regards, Sertug
This is our 2nd year using the Turkish made Ultra Anchor/Swivel/Grab hook.
I was 1st made aware of it where someone recommended the Turkish made Ultra Swivel which is a unique design that rights the anchor as it comes over the roller. We were fortunate enough to be offered the opportunity to trial test an Ultra all summer cruising season last year and after anchoring out all season and not wanting to deal with the Med mooring in marinas I can tell you that it worked flawlessly for us all year. I have not had any experience with the Rocna but some independent comparative studies do show the Ultra to be superior in some categories. You definitely have to drive the boat right on top of it to dislodge it. It only comes in stainless steel and seems to be priced less than the Rocna in SS. The design is quite unique with it having hollow flukes filled with lead that weights the point to set quickly and drive it in deep. Many times swimming over it all that is exposed is the shank. This summer we have had Bill and Kay O'Meara who own N5725 on with us since mid May and we have anchored out every night except a few nights where we dropped the anchor and backed to a pontoon or docking area. The anchor always sets immediately and even in grass we drop it and slowly let the wind/current pull us back and then very gently idle in reverse to get a firm set with mostly a 3 to 1 chain to depth ratio. Bill is so impressed that he is now in contact with Randy at Quickline US and negotiating to buy one upon his return to the US. Anyone interested, I can forward the comparative studies. We have also used ours for the past year and we too mainly anchor off - we haven't been in to a marina for the past month and don't plan to for a while. We also normally use a scope of 3 to 1. No experience with a Rocna but am very happy with the Ultra.

God bless your hands, efforts, and mind: You are making the world’s best anchor.
Each time I anchor, I remember Atila Rezak, who helped during the design process of this anchor by trying it at his boat, and all my other friends contributing, with respect. I am staying like a stone with my new boat Benetau 50 at a location (Bodrum-Bitez) where I previously had big problems with other anchors on other ships. Exactly as I was told, the anchor buries itself deeper as I go astern, then the chain looks like a violin cord.
On top of that, Bitez is well known for its weedy sea bottoms. I give up all the money I spent on this anchor to you. I believe it is the best marine product of this century…

Randy,
I have been meaning to write you. About 6 months ago we replaced our great looking but terribly inefficient stainless anchor weighing 140 lbs with your Quickline Ultra Anchor. The results are absolutely astounding. We were committe boat (74 ft Hatteras) for the Castaways Cup race - two days in the ocean off Port St. Lucie, and the anchor held even in the 40 knot gust that came up. We just returned from 5 days on the Little Bahama Bank in 21 knot conditions, and again the anchor held without moving all 5 days. We never had this experience in the past.
Congratulations on having made the most efficient anchor since I have been in boating (over 50 years).

Good morning,
I have tried now the new anchor more than 20 times in different situations and in waters where i have been also with the old anchor ( CQR). the anchor has held always already at the first time, it was never necessary to try several times. and this on all grounds and with all winds up to 6 bft. with one exception: i had problems on very dense seagrass fields. the anchor came up with a huge amount of gras. but this happened only twice on places, where there was absolutely no chance with the CQR. all together, I'm very satisfied with the ultra-anchor and i feel much more comfortable and safe.
Thanks and best regards.

Randy,
A quick update on our 16kg Ultra anchor. We are with 9 other boats are headed to The Broughton Archipelago. Two nights ago we anchored with the others in a small bay inside Port Neville. A small bay with lots of boats meant a short scope 93 ft of chain in low 38 feet for us the last boat in. It turned this was not a protected anchorage, picked by the flotilla leader...the wind blew 15-22 knots with a rock shore not far from our stern...thus a anchor watch was required along with deploying a 12 lb. kellet 30' down the chain. Others were deploying max chain or second anchors. The wind reduced at 0130 hrs. and I headed to the v berth. The next morning the Ultra was deep with windless straining for her to release. She came up loaded with mud, sand and shells. At the Seattle Boat Show you said we would Thank you by season's end. Well here is a early installment of our Thank you.

Hello Gene,
I wanted to give you a report on our first experience with the Ultra anchor which took place over the 4th of July weekend in the San Joaquin Delta. Our boat is a Navigator 4800 which weighs approximately 50K lbs. We anchored in 15 ft. of water in an area with a soft mud bottom and moderate grass. The anchor set immediately on the first attempt and we let out all chain with a scope of 7:1. The wind during our 3 days in a moderately crowed anchorage generally remained around 20 kts. On our first day at anchor, even with heavy boat wake activity and tide changes, the Ultra never moved an inch. I also used your chain grabber system which worked perfectly and took all of the strain off of the windlass. At this point, I was pleased and knew I had purchased a superior product.
The next part is where things got interesting and the anchor proved its holding power. Another boat joined us for the second and third day. This vessel was a 53 foot Carver and tips the scales at 70K lbs. The skipper was having trouble deploying his anchor and then manuevering back into position to raft up with us. On his second attempt, he thought his delta anchor had set and we lashed our boats together. When he went to put some tension on his chain and take some of the load off of mine, he realized that his anchor had again not set. The wind was now at 25kts and heavy boat wakes were constant. We decided to maintain a sharp anchor watch and see how things held. I am pleased, and honestly amazed, that our single anchor held both vessels solid as a rock for the next 48 hours. I was impressed with the Ultra Anchor after visiting your booth at a boat show in Alameda, Ca. After this experience, I am a true believer. Thank you for helping me select the perfects products for our boat.
Sincerely,

The combination of the Ultra-Anchor, your nifty swivel and your chain hook are in danger of making us become over-confident in our anchoring skills.
We've been on the hook every night for the last six weeks in the Gulf of California. We've seen your demonstration that the anchor will reset itself but it has not had to prove that to us. We've been rock solid each and every time that we've gotten it wet. In fact, we let nature and the breeze actually "set" the anchor because the only time we powered down on it I thought we might rip the bow roller off...it digs in! Last night we had 32 kt. winds from the north... no problem.
An hour ago we pulled into a very windy, crowded, anchorage with just enough room for us in front of a large powerboat... confident that there wouldn't be any slippage... no problem.
Keep up the good work!

Hi Mr. Erkutay,
I had a chance to try our new ULTRA Anchor and the swivel yesterday. We went to a specific place where we could not get the previous anchor held, even by trying several times, and the ULTRA held at the first attempt.
After that, the known storm caught us while we were out of Buyukada island, yesterday. We anchored at another place after the storm to get some rest, and the same result occurred; it held at the first attempt. We want to thank everyone who has spent effort on this product, and we would like to see such products in our country.

Mr. Erkutay,
You did design a fabulous anchor. I can now anchor even by a shorter scope at all places where I could not with my old B…. anchor. Congratulations, and keep up the good work.

Hi Erkutay,
We already met at boat shows. My boat is a Bavaria 33 Cruiser; our anchor is a 16kg Ultra. I already thanked you personally, but I wanted to write you to thank you again for making such an excellent product for us. I am already writing about it on forums. We had some incredible adventures with Ultra. We held safe on a weedy bottom under 20 knots of wind in a choppy bay. At another time, Ultra held us without any scope at a busy anchorage, it was nearly perpendicular to the sea bottom, and the wind was again around 20 knots. The next morning, I dove to see how this miracle might come true and was shocked to see that the anchor was buried in sand without any scope, and I thanked the workers again for this miracle. I am telling this story everywhere.
Last week, we met a couple from New Zealand at Sapdere Bay, south of Alacatı/Izmir. They asked us if our anchor was Ultra, and they already knew everything about it. I gave your phone to them.

Dear Erkutay,
We have now tried it out in mud, sand and coarse sand and it has worked extremely well every time. With our last anchor we could not get it to set in sand - our biggest test - even with scopes of 10:1. The Ultra has set firmly and quickly every time with scopes of 3:1. The anchor also self launches every time whereas we often had to give our last one a kick to get it moving. Overall we are very pleased and will be happy to recommend the Ultra to anyone who needs a new anchor.
With kind regards

The expected southern weather passed. As we were at the North of the island, we did not feel that bad weather. However one night we had some real difficulties. We had the hardest storm since we left Turkey. Even we were expecting that it was going to come from South, weather came from North when we had just anchored to a small island called Francesco at the North part of main island. Sundown was close. In a flash the North horizon started to get dark. Yet, we did not understand what was going on; the crazy wind came over us with rain. Tent gathering the rain on was tight on stern. The crazy wind started to shake the tent out extremely that I thought its connections would break away. We both ran to gather the tent. It got swollen with the crazy wind and it was nearly going to wing us. We barely wrapped it and put into the locker. We were totally wet in such a short time like we felt into water. Our anchorage was open to the North. The bow of the boat started to go in and out of water with the big waves. Boat’s back turned to the shore. The rocks of the island were starting about 50m. back. I wanted to go to bow and check the anchor. However, this was impossible. Rain drops darted by the wind was hitting my face as bullets. OUR ULTRA ANCHOR HAS NOT DRAGGED TILL TODAY. WE TOOK COVER IN OUR BOAT HOPING IT WOULD NOT LET US DOWN THIS TIME, TOO. Water spatters turned to a white cloud. Vision was 0. There was a small boat so close to us tied to a arch barrel and we even could not see this boat anymore……….The limit of our wind indicator was 60 knot and we were away over it……While we were thinking of how much we could survive under those conditions, the wind started to calm down. I was surprised once I check the time. We felt like the storm lasted for hours, everything actually passed in just 30 minutes…….. We were so afraid of dragging to the rocks but it was over. I went down to take a strong drink.

Dear authorized,
I have been using your 21kg Ultra Anchor for three years. It always made me feel completely safe to this day. Furthermore, last Saturday in the Cold Water Cove located at the south part of Kusadasi gulf, while I was on anchoring maneuver, my boat flew off the rocks with full speed because of a sudden failure at the engine remote control system when the anchor had just touched the seabed. The Ultra anchor perfectly held my boat, even though the scope was too short, and the boat started to turn to the right. We were rescued from the rocks by a 1,5 – 2 meters. I could stop the engine in that time—Ultra anchor’s perfect holding rescued us from a big accident. After I fixed the problem with the engine remote control system, I could easily recover my anchor, which I had turned 360 degrees at full speed, and secure it again. Then I told myself that this anchor really deserves every penny I spent on it. I thank you for producing Ultra Anchor. By the way, my boat’s name is Pelinay, she is 10 meters and 9.5 tons, and Thrandil has an Ultra anchor on.

…” Culiana ran to the internet cafe to buy an Ultra anchor made in Turkey”… On a stormy day, all boats from the nearby islands, open bays, and harbors crowded into Vilihona Bay. Culiana did not anchor; he boarded his boat on me. We wanted to try my anchor. Culiano’s ship is twice as big as mine. We used a 20 m chain at a depth of 6.5m. The weather blew between 28 and 38 degrees nonstop for 24 hours. We saw 52 at the showers. After that storm Culiana ran to the internet cafe to buy an Ultra anchor made in Tukey… …I think the weather was 10 outside.
No need to say that inside was too bad. When surges started to come inside from the harbor entrance, all anchored boats became washing machines. Small boats started to go into the marina…We had to stay for a while since it was not easy to take the engine into the boat. We took our anchor nearby with the help of the head and stern chain grabs’ surge absorbent rubbers. Therefore, we started to take the wind from the side, but at the same time, we began to counter the huge waves entering from the bow and stern, which helped a lot. Some washing machines had to wait for the whole night since their anchors were dragging (I had clearly seen that one of them was using –C..-). However, we could sleep well in safety.
My dear friend Nejat, you have designed a beautiful anchor, which has made our journey comfortable, and we can sleep safely in all weather conditions. On the other hand, it writes Ultra and Made in Turkey on it, and that makes me a lot happier. Before Ultra, I used to throw another anchor when the weather was increasing; however, there is no need for that anymore. I thank you and your partner, Mr. Yılmaz..

We replaced our Lloyds approved high holding power anchor which consistently failed to hold our yacht, with an Ultra Stainless Steel Anchor and Swivel of the same weight. I am delighted to confirm that the 80Kg* Ultra not only looks superb but has held my 100 ton yacht securely during 2 days of 40 knot winds with gusts up to 50 knots. At the height of the storm, the anchor slipped some 20m but quickly dug itself in again

* The recommended Ultra size for 100ton Sail boat is 100kg. However, we wanted to compare its performance with the previous anchor therefore 80kg Ultra is being used on that boat. We believe at the height of the storm 100kg Ultra on that boat would not slip even for 1 meter.

When we joined the East Mediterranean Yacht Rally with S/Y TAY, we were excited and curious about using the Ultra Anchor and Ultra Swivel, which we bought at the Istanbul Boat Show 2007, for the first time.
We had successful anchoring at each of 5 countries that we had been and stayed safe. We had seen that the products have all the functions we were told about at the show. As much as the quality of the products, we also thank the YUCEL family for their warm interest away from commercial anxiety, which is proper for sailors.

Approximately 2 months ago I phoned Boyut Marine regarding my anchoring problem. With Mr. Erkutay’s address descriptions, I found their place in an industrial area. They introduced their anchor Ultra with tea, coffee and some chat. They of course showed their sand box, as well. I was convinced and I placed an order??? on an Ultra anchor.
They told me that they will be coming to Bodrum for the International Bodrum Yacht Show at the end of August and they said they can deliver my anchor at that show. I visited them at the Show, again they welcomed me with their all kindness and tenderness, and they also introduced their other products and delivered my anchor.
I have changed my existing anchor immediately and started to use Ultra at the next day. I WAS CHEATED yes I WAS CCCCCHHHHEEEEAAAATTTTTEEEEEDDDDD….???
Yes, you did not get me wrong, all kindness and tenderness, coffee and tea….
That huge company cheated me and sold me a MOBILE ARCH instead of an anchor. Unfortunately, wherever you throw Ultra (even it is concrete) you stay right there. If your chain is short you have no chance to come close to shore. 27kg Mobile Arch as soon as touches the sea bed holds like an octopus. It is impossible to change its place; using ultra is too but too hard.
I congratulate Boyut Marine Company with all my heart. I thank to each of them. Be always as creative, as tenderness as you are…..

Mr. Erkutay,
We have been getting stretched after each anchoring attempt( you threw anchor early, late, you did not give enough pay out, you left the breast line late, etc.), especially even under breath, we have been having problems with a dragging anchor; the reasons for those problems were the anchor and our inexperience.
Last week, we began using your anchor, Ultra. When we give enough scope and reverse the engine as soon as it catches the chain, the boat stops in place, as if it were nailed, and it does not move, even when we give more gas. When we recover the anchor, we see how it buried itself. When your anchor is being used, there is no need for great timing, maneuver, or speed. Each of our anchoring attempts resulted in tremendous success, like the first one.
Anchoring is no longer a problem for us; we congratulate each other on our success in each anchoring attempt. We commend you for manufacturing such a functional and quality anchor.

Hi Randy,
We bought our 60 pound Ultra anchor after the Seattle Boat Show this last spring. We have a 42' Nova Sundeck trawler-style motoryacht and are from Alameda, CA. We are just now heading back south from a trip up the coast from San Francisco Bay, through the San Juans, further up through the Canadian Gulf Islands, on up into Princess Louisa Inlet, then on to Desolation Sound, and just recently back into the US, now heading south toward Puget Sound. We have used our anchor many, many times throughout our trip and absolutely LOVE it!!! Our new motto is "Drop it, Set it, FORGET it! We can't even count how many times we watched other boats drop their anchor, DRAG their anchor, move to another spot, and repeat, repeat, repeat... We never even ONCE had to move because our anchor wouldn't set. As a result, anchoring has never been a questionable or stressful time for us. We have even slept comfortably "on the hook" in a windy cove through gale-force winds while traveling up the coast, and never questioned our anchor's holding power, keeping us securely in place. (Line chafing maybe, but NOT our anchor!) And as conscientious cruisers we ALWAYS set our anchor alarm but have NEVER EVER needed it! Please feel free to use our quote regarding our Ultra: "Drop it, Set it, Forget it!" What a relaxing way to anchor :-) And as promised, here is a pic from a San Francisco Bay raft-up, just before we headed north and a few more of our Ultra anchor and our boat NuMoon. Obviously, ours is the "anchor boat" for the raft-up! Go Ultra!!! Thanks for making such a GREAT product!!
Sincerely, Alexus Sheppard and Deborah Perry http://travelintrawler.blogspot.com/
PS, After visiting Puget Sound through August, we'll be heading back south for the fall and then onto Southern California and Mexico for the winter. I'm sure we'll be using our Ultra again, and again, and again...

We hit the road to the city of Beaufort, NC. However, the weather turned to rain like a cataclysm when we were about to reach the Beaufort. The wind was at least 20-30 knots. We had a hard time finding our way to the crowded anchoring area. In the evening, we met with Staublar again, and after dinner, we went back to our boat before it was too late. Fortunately, we came back early because a dragging boat during that storm hooked its chain to our anchor. After working so hard, we could let him go. We thanked our anchor ULTRA once more for carrying those two big boats in this storm when the wind was blowing 30 knots.

"Finally, I have arrived in Gibraltar. Up to now, 90% of the places I have stopped, I have had the anchor in. Everywhere and every seabed, the anchor holds tight on the first attempt. I never had to try a second time. I reversed the engine and pulled repeatedly; the more I pulled, the more difficult it became to bring the anchor back, indicating that it had dug itself deeper. Now I rarely dive to check the anchor, and it always stays as shown in the textbooks." I think you are manufacturing one of the best anchors in the world. Let's see how it is going to perform at the stormy bays of the south."

Hello, the anchor I use now is the Ultra, which is made in Turkey. The reason I chose a naval architect-designed one is that it is the developed and perfected shape of the S... anchor, which is also a very good anchor. S…. owners have commented about it in numerous foreign boat magazines. Anyhow, I think it is the most expensive anchor in the market today. To develop the anchor that I use, they did small models of all the other anchors and worked on them. I was persuaded when they showed me, and I fitted it as the main anchor. The best feature of the anchor is the lead inside the tip. Because of that, half the weight of the anchor is at the tip. S…. uses the same technique, too.
Consequently, the tip of the anchor wants to touch the seabed first. Additionally, side wing plates make the anchor come to the digging position even if it is positioned on one side of the seabed. On the other hand, they do breaking tests of all anchors. Those are theoretical. In practice, I anchored at nearly all places in the Mediterranean Sea. I used the anchor on all kinds of sea beds. Due to the ultra being a newly designed anchor, I looked each time I dove. I had not seen the anchor unburied on the sea even once. My previous anchor, C... (it is now my stern anchor), does not perform like this, except on mud; mostly, it was lying on one side. I had positioned it by diving so many times. Those are my experiences. However, there is not only one right at seamanship.

I mounted 3 Quickline, two in the push pit and one in the pull pit of my yacht called "Uzaklar II". I spent the winter of 2002 in the Gokova and Hisaronu bays. Sea bound people know, there is just not enough room in these bays and inlets to moor comfortably, so we anchor from the pull pit and tie the push pit to a sturdy station on land for support. We used to use a thick rope in the past. It was a real problem making it to land it back. Mounting a reel on the push pit the deck was not always a solution as it would take up too much space and knot up while rewinding. I have finally found a solution to all my mooring problems. Quickline is shaped like a belt can be let out and rewound onto the reel drum by the use of winding arm with ease. Although the line on the reel drum is 60 m. long, it does not take up unnecessary space as it flat. At first, I was worried if this thin line could carry my boat, however, this 3.5 cm-wide polyester line, shaped like a belt, carried my 20-ton yacht, Uzaklar II, even in the stormiest weather. It is well known that there is an abundantly of mice in Gokova. If you don't care, they walk along the mooring rope or breast line and climb on board your boat. However, as Quickline is shaped like a belt, mice can not walk along this line, therefore, you are safe from mice of all sizes. As this line turns continuously when pulled, it can even be seen easily in the dark. It prevents boats coming back to the yacht from getting snarled in the line.

"I saw an ad while looking through a magazine in a small inlet in Gokova. The reel in the picture looked quite sensible. I decided to call the number shown. The product, called "Quickline," is made of 316L quality stainless steel. I instantly ordered one. Actually, even while I was mounting on my yacht, I didn't think that the results would be so satisfying. After trying it for one month, I ordered another one for the other side. Mooring from long distances and rewinding the line takes only a few seconds, and it is unbelievably easy to do. A 60 m line does not take up unnecessary space, as it is flat (because it is not thick). When added to the anchor line as an extension, it never knots up and causes no undue problems. This is one product that is so useful for the Money spent that it is well worth your money. I recommend it to all yacht owners.

Let me first introduce myself, I’m Steven Dinger. My wife and I currently own a Catana 472 Catamaran. As with many catamaran owners we have owned our share of mono-hulls. I started with a 25’ sloop progressed to a 32’ Garden design and did 14 years of serious cruising with our Norseman 447 and 10 of the 14 years with the 535 cutter rigged. Both were heavy displacement hulls. What I am about to tell you is a story about night and day when it comes to owning the right anchor. My wife and I started out in June of 2006 on a beautiful cruise from Canet en Roussillon, France that would include Corsica, Sardinia, Italy, Croatia, Greece and finally Turkey. The trip was beautifully planned, however, the anchoring situation made it unbearable and at times very dangerous. Our catamaran because of the high bridge-deck clearance, therefore, high free-board caused our cat Tivoli to sail on her anchor. We noted that our Delta 25 Kg. anchor (standard anchor for the 47’ Catana) had a tendency to drag once the anchor was set. This is what I call, “false security” when it comes to anchoring (you believe your anchor is set and then you begin to drag a half hour later). I knew that I had to work with what I had since I was not finding larger anchors available at the chandleries at the ports we visited along the way. So, each anchorage I would lay out 50-60 meters of chain and pray that the anchorage would not be crowded. That worked in France but not in Corsica or Sardinia where the anchorages were crowded. So, I would attempt to remove our boat as far away as possible and set my watch for 90 minute anchor watches. Not that pleasant When we finally got to Croatia, our problems really became magnified. The anchorages were often much deeper and the Bora winds at 35 knots would come out of the mountains and swoop down on the anchorages with vengeance nearly every night. Now the drill was to layout the chain on the deep side of a shelf, set the chain-watch on my GPS and sleep out in the cockpit from 11 pm to 5 am when the Bora would leave and the anchorage would go back to being serene. After a week of this I was physically stressed out from being up throughout the night. Re-setting anchors in the early AM with 35 knot winds is no picnic. I knew changes were needed and as quickly as possible to save the rest of the extended cruise. I met up with Jurgen who seemed to know his anchors and really did know Croatia since he had been cruising extensively in these waters for over 10 years. I listened carefully to him as he explained that the 25 Kg. Delta was a bad combination for our catamaran. He said that 45 Kg. should be a minimum for our boats characteristics. He also suggested at least another 20 meters of 10mm chain. I agreed with him, but Dubrovnik area did not have this size anchor or 80 meters of 10mm chain. So, Jurgen contacted his Charter friend in Pula and they made arrangements to have a 45 Kg. Britany anchor delivered from Germany to Split. Split became our destination, while we experienced many more anchor watches along the way. Some so dangerous I dread even thinking about the situation. Since we had guests aboard, I would put on my happy face in the morning after not sleeping and cruise to the next destination never really feeling comfortable getting off the boat to tour. By the time we reached Split I was myopic, one-track, get the anchor and get the longer chain. While in Split, I met Jurgen’s friend who had a custom 51 mono-hull, who preached that there was only one anchor, the Wasi. When he attempted to anchor next to Jurgen and I, we noticed that the anchor caught immediately. Therefore, he placed his snubber and bridle on and smiled back to us. Approximately 30 minutes later he was dragging, again I call this “false security”. I noted that the Wasi blades are sharp and they dig-in right away. But, their blades are also narrow and can pull out and get loaded with grass/weeds easily. I also noted that the shank was long and straight. This is also not good since the shank will hit the tramp net on the way in and again when retrieving the anchor (the same with the Britany) Not a good anchor for our cat. Now with my 80 meters of chain and 45 Kg. Britany I felt as though I had solved the riddle of too small and too little chain. On the way back to Dubrovnik I had an opportunity to try out our new purchases. It seemed to be a good combination. I was holding, so I began to sleep again. After one day in Dubrovnik we sailed throughout the night and arrived late the next day in Greek waters. I dropped the Britany and paid out 50 meters in Tranquil Bay. The anchor didn’t catch. I tried again, in surprise, it didn’t catch again. The Britany was sliding across the tall grass, of all places, Tranquil Bay. I was confused until a near-by Brit said, “we’re in bloody grass” you need to lock the anchor in hard. The third time seemed to work (keep in mind no wind and in less than 12 meters of water). The problem repeated itself a couple more times and now I had some question as to whether, after all, I had purchased the right anchor. Not a good feeling after spending a lot and having people tell me how wonderful the Britany worked on their boats.. While attempting to anchor 3 times in Porto Rafti, with a good Meltemi blowing, I knew I had the wrong anchor. And the final straw was the Island of Simi, when at a Taverna having lunch, I noticed Tivoli was drifting away in a light wind. I had to run a ½ mile, untie my dinghy, and take off after our cat heading for the rocks inside the bay. Not a enjoyable experience at 58 years of age (I never ran a half a mile even in school). The rest of the cruise was uneventful, arriving at Marmaris Yacht Marine, where the attendants come out to meet you and escort you to your slip. No more anchoring for the rest of the year. Thank God! While home in San Francisco area for the winter, I had one major priority and that was to solve the anchoring problem once and for all. I studied every major anchor testing that was available. The British Admiralty test, Boats US, West Marine, Cruising World, Sail. I read them all. I Googled ‘anchor testing’ and found interesting sites where manufacturer’s debated each other’s anchors and solicited in detail the flaws of of their competition This was so informative that I started to feel I was getting somewhere in understanding anchors. I had narrowed my choices down to the Spade, a larger Delta, Wasi and the new Rocna that was showing real promise as the new anchor of the future with new concepts in design. I made several correspondences with Rocna, but they had no distributors in Turkey and the costs of shipping and customs was equal to the cost of the anchor. That left the Spade, Delta and Wasi with the same problem of getting it shipped into Marmaris, Turkey. The Catana Users-Group Website had some very love-hate feelings about the Spade. They loved how they set and stayed where ever you placed them. They hated the fact that the aluminum version of Spade were delaminating and the shanks were bending into shapes you would never imagine. The steel Spades were also bending at the shanks. I knew that was not the anchor for me since we sail on our anchor as much as 90 degrees. I still remembered our observation of the Wasi while up in Slit, Croatia and decided we have had enough of the dragging with the Britany and like the Britany the Wasi had the long straight shank that does not work well on most bow rollers, so the Wasi was also out of contention as a solution. (With the “knock-off” Wasi’s being sold in Marmaris for hardly any money, it was still out.) I went back to the Rocna rep’s one more time to see if we could work something out. I was running out of time, Spring was fast approaching and I would be leaving for Marmaris at the end of May. By a fluke, we decided to attend the Oakland California SailExpo. While making the rounds under the tents, we came across an exhibit for the Ultra Anchor. I found their sampling of all the anchors in the sand box a bit amusing. But, I did not find the Ultra Anchor amusing. Here was an anchor that had a sharp tip ‘loaded with led’ for penetrating all surfaces. The geometric angles of the blades, were designed to force the anchor to dig deeper. The angle of the shank was designed to penetrate the surface with minimal scope and the smooth curve of the shank allowed for easy exit and entrance onto the bow roller. The winglets at the end of the blades force the anchor to reset itself, if there is a change of tide or wind directiton. It simply resets itself easily. I noticed that it had a stainless bar to strengthen the shank which also could serve as a ‘trip line’ support. I could see that a lot of thought had gone into the design of this anchor. It had my interest. Now it needed to sell itself with ‘real world’ application. Aaron of Sovereign BBQ had caught sight of us and had come over to say hello (we had worked together at putting one of his BBQ’s on our boat the year before). I asked where is this anchor made, he said Istanbul, Turkey. I said, you are kidding? He said no, it is Istanbul. I said our boat is in Marmaris, Turkey and I am having trouble getting an anchor shipped into Turkey A couple days later, I looked up the manufacturer in Istanbul and we began to have a dialog in regards to the data collected on the Ultra Anchors. I did not want to make another mistake on choice of anchor. I needed proof. Not only was the representative fluent in English, he was a real delight to work with in answering questions over the next month. There was no doubt I was going to buy this Ultra Anchor, the question was which size. Should I go with the 35 Kg. or the 45 Kg.? My friend Jurgen in Pula said, “Steve we have been through this before, go with the 45 Kg. anchor and you will be safe in big blows, not just simple anchoring.” He was right. I did go with the 45 Kg. The Ultra People personally saw to it that it was delivered to the Marmaris Yacht Marine two days after I had arrived. Everything is exactly as they said it would be. What a pleasure dealing with professionals with integrity. Now the real test of the Ultra Anchor on Tivoli our 472 catamaran. We sailed from Marmaris to Fethiye Turkey. Each anchorage, I had the opportunity to anchor and then take a mask and snorkel and check the anchor set and dive again several hours later to see if there were any changes.. The Ultra Anchor sets within 1 meter. And when I say set, I mean it sets up to the shank. In one of the inlets the wind shifted 180 degrees and the anchor reset itself by turning around within its own length. I told my wife it simply is amazing to see the Ultra Anchor work so effectively. (I once had a Fortress that would do that in about 3 lengths. The problem with the Fortress is that we could never launch it from our bow anchor rollers. It was never designed to be other than hand throw in or a stern anchor.) We went throughout Turkey without once having the anchor drag or difficulty setting. I could leave the boat and go on long tours and most importantly I could sleep at night. In Greece, where I had had so much trouble before, my wife and I ran into a gail force Meltemi near the island of Dhenoussa. We spend two days held up in a small inlet in 35-45 knot winds. Although my bridle parted losing my thimble causing our catamaran to swing wildly, the Ultra Anchor never moved according to the GPS markers. You cannot imagine how excited I am about this Ultra Anchor. It has won my respect over-and-over again. It is the perfect anchor for catamarans or any other boat that has a tendency to sail on their anchors. It is the perfect anchor for anyone who wants to protect their investment and wants to sleep at night. I would recommend this anchor highly to anyone who wants to match the quality of their boat with the ground tackle that keeps them from harms way. The difference from last year to this year like I said, “is night and day.” Do yourself a favor and get the anchor that has all the new technological advantages of keeping you and your family safe. It will be the last anchor you will ever need for your boat. Steven A. Dinger S/V Tivoli—472 Catana Catamaran From Steve Dinger's another e-mail; After last nights 45 Kt. Meltemi, the Ultra S/S is my candidate for best anchor. Have a look and you will see why. Best designed anchor and I have done plenty of research and read the Sail/West Marine anchor tests. Let them do their testing in Greece and Turkey sometime and I am certain the results would be considerably different with the long grass conditions . When they tested off of Santa Cruz, California in mud. They used two locations near by and had some pretty strange results because of it. After buying one to many anchors last year, I did my due diligence over the winter and went with the Ultra Anchor. It is now 1451 in Gocek on Fethiye Bay and the wind is now starting to build out of the N NW, but reports say it will be nothing like last night. I smile, another day in paradise with my Ultra Anchor.
